The purpose of this study was to synthesize monodispersed platinum nanoparticles on a bovine bone which is a renewable bio-support, at low cost. This support has not been previously reported. In addition, this support was used in the hydrogenation catalytic conversion of 2-butyne-1,4-diol to 2-butene-1,4-diol. Platinum nanoparticles supported on bovine bone powder were obtained by two methods: a straight forward method that eliminates the calcination step of the conventional catalyst preparation methods. The average size of the nanoparticles obtained was 2.2 nm. Arnica tea was used as reducer of platinum nanoparticles, the average size of the nanoparticles obtained was 8.4nm. The characterization of platinum nanoparticles was performed using SEM, TEM and XPS analysis. As a catalyst for the 2-butyne-1,4-diol hydrogenation, a nearly 100% conversion in both cases, and 83% selectivity towards 2-butene-1,4-diol were attained by the fist method and 96% by the second.-
